Washington Map Society: Kory Olson on ‘Motoring Africa: Michelin’s Road Maps for an Exotic Continent’
November 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Hosted by the Washington Map Society, in partnership with the California, Chicago, New York, Philip Lee Phillips, Rocky Mountain, and Texas Map Societies, Kory Olson (Professor of French, Stockton University; Secretary and Vice-Chair, The International Society of the History of the Map) will discuss ‘Motoring Africa: Michelin’s Road Maps for an Exotic Continent’, based on his forthcoming book, ‘Motoring Africa with Michelin’. In this book, Olson examines how the tyre company presented France’s colonial space in Africa as both driveable and French, prioritizing European-built infrastructure over indigenous peoples and spaces. RSVP to John Docktor (washmap@gmail.com) to receive the meeting ID and passcode.
